- Manuka Honey
Wound dressings
Mum & Dad gave us a word that honey was something to look into to help these wounds heal. After consulting with the plastic Doctors, well, Plastic Surgeons is what I mean, it was left that for the time they wouldn't use these. Not being familiar with what was available we accepted this.
Once things fell apart (excuse the pun) & grim news was being spoken to us about Claudia's possible future we researched this thoroughly and after many phone calls came across a wonderful lady at a company named Comvita. This company produce a number of products and have gifted us hundreds of dollars worth of these dressings that have been used on Claudia by the surgeons which have helped improved the healing. Check out their website and although the product we've used has been for medical applications there are a number of other products including honey for your toast (which we've bought & enjoy) that you can all buy. COMVITA Furthermore Starship have now bought these dressings themselves for Claudia and hopefully other children so we are hopeful that plenty of others in need for skin healing will now benefit in something more natural.

Well, what can I tell you about this product? When Claudia was first diagnosed my sister gave us a tub of this powder to try for Claudia. After some research which didn't give us a definitive answer and being introduced to a disease we were only starting to learn about, we chose not to use it because of our concern that it was not sterile once the tub was opened.
At the time of Claudia's transplant we gave her some (we'd learnt a little about the immune system by now) and it had 'interesting' results.
Again when we got the latest 'talk' we made a phone call to a wonderful lady we'd met in Claudia's early stage of this mission who quickly got us a tub and subsequently we now have half the worlds stock (maybe a slight exaggeration). The irony of this is that when we decided not to give Claudia the Ambrotose the first time round, we that tub gave to this lady for her daughter and has lived in good health ever since. Was this a message we missed?
Since starting Claudia on the Ambrotose there have been a number of changes to her treatment but one of these is that she has now been off anti-biotics since starting Ambrotose. Claudia has been on anti-biotics for months and had built resistance to some because of the long length of time on them. This was becoming a major problem because there are only so many levels of anti-biotics before you run out.
Ambrotose is not only for those who are sick, it can and should be taken to prevent you getting sick. Check/Google it out - AMBROTOSE
The biggest surprise we have had in all this is the power of nutrition. As well as the Ambrotose Claudia has been on IV feeding & more recently NG tube feeding, she has put on over 5kgs and is still gaining weight. You are what you eat right?

Miracles do happen
We firmly believe that Claudia has had nothing short of a miracle happen to her that got her through the acute GVHD back in October/November 2004.
Now here we are again in a position where most were not offering much hope when hope was all we had. Now she has made such a remarkable improvement over the past few months that the talk has changed to very positive and encouraging news indeed (the improvement is more in this short time compared to no progress in many months).
So thank God and we know we are blessed, we just have to make sure we make the most of it and understand what is important in our lives.
